a friend took the cardboard centre out of her angel and put cold white lights in it and uses it for her Christmas tree topper...hung thin strands of gold ribbon from the top to the bottom of the tree...I am impressed! The angel with the ladybug was a private order...

A good day of knitting with friends....beautiful blue skies...it was amazing.
Had a swim tonight...always lots to learn about our complex....we had a robbery earlier this week...
well planned out...and the police can't do a thing about it...they covered the cameras with their jackets etc...little creeps....
They broke into a few cars but we are smarter than they are...we don't leave anything in them anymore.

oh well....life goes on...no one was hurt ..that is the main thing.

Please remind me to renew my car insurance..tomorrow is the deadline.

Am enjoying my granddaughter's visit so very much. She is such a sweet young woman.
We baked cookies...made a pizza from scratch...vacuumed...dusted...made the bed...went swimming...
finished knitting and felting my second pair of clog slippers...what a full wonderful day we had.

Today my daughters and my granddaughter went with me to Jack Tang funeral. He was 'one of a kind' type person. A special person in our lives. He and his wife Bessie owned Tang's Pagoda on Government St....we sat at the front of their store to watch MANY May Day Parades....
Saw many old friends at the funeral...brought back good memories.

This is 1982 ...Janis watching me sitting on the clown's lap... love those parades....

December 27 Cinderella Ballet

Charlotte is having a two day holiday with Grammer!! Tonight we went to the Royal Theatre to see the Cinderella Ballet. It was a nice evening with my granddaughter.
Tomorrow we plan to swim, make a pizza from scratch, do some needlework, maybe sew, maybe go to Michaels Craft Store, definitely swim again, use the exercise room in our building...all this is on her 'to do' list. She's just gone to bed so I don't expect to see her before 9am...

It was a great day. Looking forward to tomorrow.

Boxing Day

Being a non-shopper myself...today is a day of rest and quiet time.... couldn't imagine torturing myself to go into a Mall to try and find something!! But I know alot of people that wait for Boxing Day sales.

Looking forward to my granddaughter's sleepover tomorrow and us going to the Cinderella Ballet tomorrow night...such a nice Christmas present for me.

Yesterday Anita and I went for breakfast to JJMorgans and "Santa" came in to have some breakfast...so I asked him if I could have my picture taken with him...even though he was NOT working at the time.
He was very happy to oblige.

Anita found another Santa....so we took another picture. It was such a nice visit with Anita.
Wishing EVERYONE a very very MERRY CHRISTMAS...I leave for Duncan at noon today and won't be back until late Sunday night....soooooo am going to do Sunday's blog next....

Tomorrow the little ones will be squirming out of their skin anticipating the arrival of the big fat man in his red suit!!! I can remember that feeling so well. As children we went to church on the 24th in the evening..sang the real Christmas Carols...and while we were at church, Santa would have visited our homes ...we opened presents when we got home from church....it was magical! But things were different 'way back then'...we got ONE present from Santa and small gifts from our siblings that were hand made. It was wonderful.

The strata meeting last night went well...definitely unexpected...the person that thought he was going to win...did NOT win....the owners showed up in full force and he withdrew his proposal and went along with what we wanted. He should know better than to screw around with old Grammas at Christmas time!!!!! Now we can rest until the next meeting January 12. NEVER buy anything that has the word STRATA on it.

Need more sleep...Will blog once more before heading upisland for Christmas....

                                Once upon a time when Santa was a baby......

Hickory Dickory Dock I think a mouse ran across my line of vision at 2pm while I was doing a bit of last minute knitting to get an order done for today!!.. NOT positive about this but did set up two traps...5am check on traps...NOTHING!! whew. Probably just one of my many black floaters on my eyeball!! (black flecks) ...I like that idea better than having a mouse!!   The woman in the condo on the floor below me had a mouse awhile back... peanut butter and cheese caught that little guy in 4 hours.... MUST get some peanut butter today...and yellow cheese... something tells me that Monterey Jack cheese just will not cut it with a mouse! Should have put on some of my Blue Cheese!!! that would scare the mouse away if nothing else.
Hmmmm....would a mouse come down a fireplace chimney? I was told they can sneak in thru the crack under doorways... Good Grief....
Well, back to bed for more sleep...yes.... I have the bottom of this door plugged with towels...can't entertain the idea of a mouse running across my bedspread while I'm sleeping!!

Before we retired to Victoria, we lived in Watrous, Saskatchewan. I think it was the Kinettes (NOT certain about the group) that needed a Santa Claus for their Christmas Party....this is way back in 1979 ...
....somehow I was their Santa Claus....no one guessed it was me...women were sitting on my lap and snuggling in and I'd whisper to them "I'm a woman" and they'd laugh and jump off!!!
It was a fun evening for sure..

In two weeks the jolly fat man will have arrived and the kids will be ripping open their presents...such excitement.....lucky to have little ones around to 'make' Christmas fun.

My visit to the dentist yesterday went well..the freezing lasted 5 hours!! Strong meds to get the infection removed (NO alcohol for 10 days..that includes vanilla, listerine etc...the druggist verbally pointed this out to me!)....hmmm...does icecream have vanilla in it...naw!!!...

Thursday NIGHT!

JUST home from Duncan...was there for Charlotte’s Grade 6 Band Concert...amazing how my granddaughter is growing up...such a nice young lady. She played her trombone with such 'I know what I'm doing!!"...can't find the right word...I'm tired...a very full day.

Their school pictures are out now... will scan some and blog them soon.

Christopher had a very high fever Wed. morning so he couldn’t make it to his Christmas Concert...that is why I hitched a ride with my son-in-law who works in Victoria...

Karyn drove me home tonight....so spoiled, aren’t I!! Love it.

The kids are getting excited about Christmas now...the countdown is in full swing in their home...not sure when their tree will go up as the drywalling and flooring etc. is being done now..

but life is easy there...it happens when it happens!!!

Wed. Dec. 7

Today is Christopher’s Christmas School Concert BUT he had a high temperature yesterday so Janis will phone early this morning to let us know if we should drive up for the Concert or not. It starts a 9:30am.

Last night 8 of us went to Oaklands Community Centre for their amazing Turkey Supper....it was delicious...with pumpkin pie for dessert. This is a yearly ‘date’ for the 8 of us.

I am positive you all remember how exciting it was the weeks before Christmas...especially after the Christmas tree was decorated and some of the presents were put under the tree with strict orders NOT to touch them!! oh sure.
Have no idea who this child is..but she is so 'into' Santa Claus... and he is definitely listening to every word she is saying.
Tonight is supper at Oaklands...always a nice way to start the Christmas feasts with close friends/family.

Yesterday was tree decorating at Aunty Karyn's!! and then we baked ginger cookies and a ginger cake.
When that was done Janis,grandkids and I went to Costco. Sooooo MANY MANY people there.

Will try and have each of my December blogs include a picture of Santa Claus. The Saturday Evening Post was definitely THE magazine that had the best drawings of Santa. Norman Rockwell captured everything we dreamed of about Santa.

How I wish I had pictures of Christmases from my childhood...such innocence...such excitement... We always had our Sunday School church programme on Dec. 24th in the evening at the church...we always got a new dress and had to learn a special verse to recite that evening. We'd receive a small paper bag of goodies..usually candies and a Christmas orange. When we got home from church, Santa would have been to our house and what excitement to see what he brought for us. ONE gift! and how we treasured it. Then Christmas morning we all went to church again....

Yesterday was such a relaxing day. Bev and I went over to Saltspring to see Marilyn.

Met her friend Carol ..who does AMAZING bead work.. purchased this tiny beaded Canadian flag..attached it to the zipper on my purse..Thanks Carol.

Today is THE day to make the final decision as to what flooring I will put in my kitchen. Not an easy call to make.

Not all surprises work out....I went over to Fulford Harbour to surprise Marilyn for her birthday but she did NOT get back there in time for the knitting group!!! She was very surprised when she saw me standing in line to get the 3:30 ferry back to Victoria! We did have a short/sweet visit at the ferry gate...anyhow...HAPPY BIRTHDAY tomorrow Marilyn.
..by the way,Marilyn...Bev and I were going to come over on Thursday but the wind warnings cancelled our plans! darn....

Sometimes a video joke just cracks me up and this one did !!!! I could NOT recite the alphabet backwards when I was sober...what was she thinking!!! This guy is GOOD!!

2:15 am...The fireplace vent cover is rattling like crazy at the moment...must be a good windstorm going on outside..too lazy to go and see.... time to crawl back into bed for more sleep...this 'shift sleeping' wears me out...4 hours of sleep... then a walk-about..have to check to see if the food fairy left anything new in the frig...NOPE..nothing...darn her!! ...okay...back for another 4 hours.

Have to be ready for 9:30a.m. 'knitting bee' ..should be fun!

New Baby Hat

I had made a hat/bootie set for Sally's friend... thinking it was for a brand new infant!! I have now
finished a larger hat for the little sweetheart who must be 4-6 months old. This hat turned out great.
I must buy myself a 1year old size doll so I can fit hats on it! Wonder if Charlotte has an extra doll for Grammer to borrow!
PublicTelevision had a weekend of 50's music and Ed Sullivan shows(B&W) from 'the good old days'...I thoroughly enjoyed reliving the past with these shows.

Am working on more hats for charity..the deadline for the big Xmas dinner for those less fortunate than ourselves is drawing nigh and they need alot of items to fill the gifts bags. Please help out!

Am starting to hear of the preparations for the Christmas Season beginning.

One friend has her tree up and decorated already to avoid the overwhelming pressure of scheduling in the month of December. The school concerts, the shopping.... the invitations to celebrate the Christmas Season are starting and she wants to be relaxed to enjoy them all... a smart woman indeed.

Yesterday was busy..Met up with a friend to help her with a knitting job...then off to Colwood where I met with a group of friends for lunch... went to Michael's in Langford to pick up a

sale item! then back home for a quick snooze and out again by 5:30 to a 'Celebration Of Life" for Sally. It was a fine fine evening for a fine fine lady.

Came home and 'crashed'...lots of things to think about before

calling it a very good day.

We have the need to complain about wind, snow, sleet and rain... Take a look at this video and imagine having to deal with a huge sand storm like this one that hit Arizona last month...makes me choke thinking of not getting any air just watching it.
I think I will take rain any day of the week...
We had a wonderful birthday luncheon today...always nice to be with 'the old gang' and Gillian!!!
Looking forward to seeing another group of old friends this afternoon for lunch..

I certainly am glad I saved alot of short videos to make these "every day in November' entries that much easier. I'm sure you'll get at least a smile out of this one...

Today is 'our cruise' day to Vancouver...but we're waiting to see what the weather holds in store for us. If the wind is still 'giving 'er hell' we've got alternative plans to meet for lunch in the city.

A friend phoned me this morning..yelling "There is a mouse in my kitchen..help me"...ha! ya right..I'll get right on that one!! I'm more afraid of mice than she is...BUT I did go and buy a few mouse traps and helped her set them up using peanut butter and cheese as the bait... Tomorrow will tell if this worked. Just how the heck can a mouse get to the 2nd floor of a building? must be able to crawl up the outside stucco walls? or take the elevator!!!!! anyhow...buying a mouse catcher was quite the experience..do we buy a snap type one(the old kind) OR the latest "glue trap"... it's a 6x8" pad of VERY VERY sticky glue...just set it out and when the mouse hits it , it's stuck for life..>BUT it is NOT dead when you find it there...so what does one do with a captured LIVE mouse ... decided we didn't want to find out and went for the old fashioned snap kind... up date to follow!!

hope the wind dies down a bit...but it's blowing hard at the moment...
time to call it a day...but this is my Thursday blog entry....

So much to absorb/comprehend/accept this Remembrance Day.
The Remembrance Day Ceremonies across Canada were especially 'close to home' with Patty being honoured at Silver Cross Medal Mother...
Her position is as copied down from the t.v. news:
The national role of Silver Cross Mother is second only to the Royal representative to the Queen.
She comes ahead of the Government of Canada...
That's our Patty!!
I must say I spent MANY hours watching t.v. yesterday (got lots of knitting done!!.. if you sit you have to knit!).. so many personal interviews with surviving families of those that 'gave their lives to protect us'...

Have no idea why I keep thinking today is Monday... Wonder if Marilyn has her blog done yet!..
I'm trying to enter one every day of November too.. time to go thru albums for story matter.

Today is 'get serious' about picking out flooring for my kitchen (after my dishwasher leaked into the condo below me)...then finish removing wallpaper in the kitchen..WHY did I even start that job (I was told I could have painted over the wallpaper!! NOW THEY TELL ME!!)

My friend Patty Braun was chosen National Silver Cross Mother and will be placing the wreath at the Memorial Site this morning in Ottawa. CBC televison will be covering this ceremony. Her son David was killed in Afghanistan in 2006.

Hat and booties finished

The hat is finished!! and it turned out so sweet! Thanks Bev for the flower pattern...simple to do and very effective to finish off the hat. I got them to the hospital in time.. my knitting friend Sally passed away today 11-10-2011 at 5pm. She was such a nice lady...deepest condolences to her family.

Remember to watch the laying of the wreath on CBC tomorrow..Patti Braun...National Silver Medal Mother is my friend from Raymore, Sask. She lost her son David in 2006 in Afghanistan...

We're at the middle of the week already...
Had an excellent visit at Hospice tonight... each visit will hold alot of good memories for me.
Tonight is a great knitting group..always lots of laughs. I need to be where people are laughing and having fun...
Am finishing off a neat hat...will post it in tomorrow's blog..if I finish it tonight at knitting.
3am... a habit of mine waking up at this time... could be the newspaper hitting the door...

Yesterday I got my new computer with Windows 7. Lordy Lordy...my old brain has been stretched to the max. Also got a new Kodak printer..basic type... but this one feeds the paper from the back ..not like my old one that the paper went in from the front...another thing to learn..so now..which side of the paper do the pictures show up on...HELP...I'm too old for this nonsense...

Where did I leave my fountain pen and bottle of ink?? ah ha...it's the feather and the ink bottle!!!

Progress continues and I try my best to hang on... can't let the grandkids beat me quite yet.

Did visit my friend in Hospice for just a few minutes last night...not as good a visit as the night before...life just isn't fair at times.

Hospice Experience

Tonight I went to visit my friend at Hospice...as I stepped off the elevator at the 3rd floor beautiful music greeted me... it was 'heavenly'.
Two university students were sitting in the visiting area playing a violin and a cello...playing Beethoven music. I asked them if they would come and play in my friend's room...they were DELIGHTED that I asked. So while I was feeding my friend supper, my friend was treated to at least 20 minutes of beautiful beautiful music...didn't realize my friend frequented the Victoria Symphony on Sunday afternoons and Beethoven music is my friend's favourite...
What a wonderful wonderful experience....again!

My new computer and new printer arrive this afternoon..then I exchange cars with my son-in-law at 4pm at his workplace...he brings it back in a few days with new brakes when it's ready.

Still pulling down wallpaper in my kitchen...slow and easy does it.

Angels in Disguise

Please take the time to thank the nurses and doctors in Hospice for the excellent work they are doing for our friends and loved ones.
Just spent some time with my friend in Hospice tonight.
I marvel at the calm and peace that this parlicular ward expels.
I came home feeling so relaxed and at peace with my own life...
I KNOW these nurses are angels in disguise...no doubt about it.
My friend keeps mentioning how much she likes being there... go figure!
Free t.v.....Free telephone..."I can eat anything I want"!!! ....etc etc.
The patient is always clean and combed and happy. (must get myself some of those meds! just joking)...

So, my friends, the next time you are around these angels... give them a big THANK YOU.

I have been to many places

I have been in many places,
but I've never been in Cahoots.
Apparently, you can't go alone.
You have to be in Cahoots with someone.

I've also never been in Cognito.
I hear no one recognizes you there.

I have, however, been in Sane.
They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there, thanks to my friends, family and work.

I would like to go to Conclusions,
but you have to jump, and I'm not too much on physical activity anymore.

I have also been in Doubt.
That is a sad place to go, and I try not to visit there too often.

I've been in Flexible,
but only when it was very important to stand firm.

Sometimes I'm in Capable,
and I go there more often as I'm getting older.

One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense!
It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I can get!

Nov. 3, 2011 am about to complete my Elizabeth Zimmermann pattern Adult Surprise Jacket. I started this quite awhile ago and somehow got distracted with smaller items to knit. Am down to 3 UFOs (unfinished objects!!) ..

By the way, all my new appliances are installed and now I start to get serious about chosing new flooring...all this started because of my dishwasher leaking into the condo below me.

.. oh yes, I did start taking down the wallpaper in my kitchen...does this all go under UFPs(unfinished projects!)??

My computer is going into 'the hospital' at noon today...are there meds for computer withdrawal? Maybe I should catch the ferry to 'that other' knitting group!?!?

She is so beautiful...her sister insisted on pulling her hair back in a ponytail and
she was NOT impressed...but she still is beautiful..Her name is Charlotte!!

My kitchen at this very moment...fans and dehumidifier going full force

for 3-5 days...dishwasher leaked into condo below me...So now I have to

buy a new dishwasher and pick out new flooring...and you all know how much

I hate shopping...but the house insurance covers it for my $200 deductible.
